Applications Open: Australian Signals Directorate Y11-12 Work Experience Program

The ASD Work Experience Program (WEx) is designed for students in years 11 and 12 who have a passion to learn more about ICT, cyber security, programming and network engineering. High achieving year 10 students may be considered if they can display the level of skill and knowledge required.

Work Experience placements are open to students around Australia. The program is held at the Australian Cyber Security Centre (Canberra) but over 45% of students in our 2018 intake were from interstate including Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales so we encourage students from all over Australia to apply.

What will the ASD WEx students learn?

The students are given a cyber security incident to solve. Each day they are presented with a series of workshops learning and using the tools and techniques required solving the problem in an ASD Cyber Security work environment. Activities range from programming, intercept and encrypt, forensic analysis and investigation, web application and security, cryptanalysis, geospatial analysis, to prototyping with an Arduino.

Students will be mentored by highly technical ASD staff and solve a variety of challenges and experiences designed to build new skills and understandings while also having fun.
