John Curtin College of the Arts Leads WA Schools in Day of STEM

The Day of STEM is gaining significant traction in Western Australia through the efforts of the John Curtin School of the Arts (click here) in Fremantle. In particular, the school has found success in running the STEM Cup program with mathematics students. The Collingwood STEM Cup (click here) program was run with the Year 9 mathematics students in Term 4 2016 with 8 teachers and 165 students participating across the school.

Australia’s Leading Amateur “Capologists” Recognized

The first annual Collingwood STEM Cup competition has come to a close revealing Australia’s top amateur Capologists. The competition invited Australians, with a focus on secondary students, to step into the role of the Capologist (or list manager) at Collingwood Football Club and decide player salaries for the 2017 season whilst staying under the AFL salary cap. The challenge is designed to inspire students to pursue degrees and careers in the STEM fields by illuminating an exciting application in sports analytics.

As the AFL season draws to its annual crescendo, it’s a pretty good bet there are many adults wishing they could live and breathe the world of footy year round. Dominic Milesi actually does.

As it turns out, Milesi’s background – a degree in economics and finance, supported by years of experience working in financial roles (including on Victoria’s state budget) – set him up well for his role as Collingwood Football Club’s national recruiting manager.
